An exquisite Antique Victorian brooch dating from the late 19th Century. It features a line of coloured gemstones across the front which spell out the word “Regard” with each first letter – Ruby, Emerald, Garnet, Amethyst, Ruby, Diamond.
Sentiment jewellery was popular in the Victorian era and was used to express a secret romantic message to a loved one spelt out in gemstones. ‘REGARD’ forms part of the phrase ‘I highly regard you’ meaning that your loved one holds you very close to their heart.
A hidden locket can also be found behind the pin and contains a well preserved lock of plaited hair, most likely belonging to a deceased loved one so that a piece of them was always kept close to the heart.
The gallery is crafted in 18ct Gold with beautiful, high relief workmanship depicting leaves and golden spheres. It’s in excellent condition and deserves to be treasured once more.
